NEW SHOW IN DURANGO

Announcing "GATHERED SPACES", an exhibit by artist Leslie Scheiblberg Madigan at the Art Library at the Durango Arts Center. Opening reception is Friday, July 11, 5 to 7 pm.

and the show runs through July and August. The show includes "Journey Jars" containing book constructions of site specific materials and much more. Leslie lives in the Hudson River Valley, just north of Manhattan. The Arts Center welcomes her back as the first director of the Durango Arts Center in the 80's. At 7 p.m. following reception Short talk by Madigan (Scheiblberg) Part I: “Beginnings of the Durango Arts Center…1978-1988” Part II: “Building Gathered Spaces - 2006-2014”

WINTER PRESSING 2013-14

Another year I have buried paper under winter snow and harvested it in the spring.  This winter was very mild, only 27 inches at my location north of Durango at 7000+ feet.  The paper was used in a book about the rivers of the world.  This book is a companion for the wall installation "Roots into Rivers" recently exhibited in California and Durango.  The construction is my own invention.  The maps of various rivers are drawn on the nature-altered paper and vellum is overlaid with the ink-jetprinted name of the river.
